I have come to the worst part of my EV project. Waiting. I have to wait for the coupler to be machined, the Civic to have an empty gas tank and a paycheck so I can purchase my batteries.
It's driving me crazy that I have run out of things to do on this project. I am actually grateful that I took a summer class because the optional homework keeps me from going crazy just sitting around. I have even gone back and redid all my motor, battery and range calculations from scratch just to make sure and keep me busy.
Quick question about the ignition (if you're still calling it that): are you bypassing the key switch and using a missile switch for the contactor? Or are you using the ignition switch and if so, how did you wire it up?
ReplyDeleteI plan on using the key switch, and adding a missile switch in series for a quick shut off. I am going to use the keyswitch to activate a pair of 12 volt relays, that will then activate the contactors and controller.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, OK, I think that's the same setup as KiwiEV, but I still can't visualise how it wires up. If I take the starter-motor wire and use it to activate the relays, the key rolls-back and the circuit will be broken. However, if I use the previous setting, the electrics will go off every time I disconnect the motor (or is that what the missile switch is for, to separate the motor from the 12v electrics?)
